Annotating a photo
1 min read Updated 3 Oct 2026
Drawing on the picture without destroying the picture.
Open any photo and choose Annotate. Draw freehand, add arrows, boxes, ellipses, lines and text.
The original is never overwritten
Annotations are stored as a separate layer of shapes, plus a flattened copy saved alongside the original. Three consequences:
- Reports print the flattened version, so the markup is visible.
- The untouched original stays downloadable, always.
- An annotation can be removed later without having damaged anything.
A burned-in arrow that cannot be removed destroys the thing being documented. That is why it works this way.
