How Trace works
2 min read Updated 3 Oct 2026
Capture, file, prove. The whole product in three steps.
Trace does one thing: it makes sure the photograph somebody took on site ends up attached to the right job, with the right time on it, and can be handed to somebody else as proof.
The loop
Capture. The crew opens the app and shoots. There is no "choose a project" step in the way — the phone already knows where it is.
File. The photo is matched to a job by GPS at the moment of capture, on the device, before any network is involved. If Trace is not certain which job it belongs to, it says so rather than guessing.
Prove. The office builds a report from the photos, brands it, and sends a link. The recipient needs no account.
What makes it different
Photos are evidence. Three rules follow from that, and they are not negotiable in the product:
- The original file is never modified. Annotations are stored as a
separate layer plus a flattened copy.
- Capture time and GPS are read-only after the fact. Everything else
about a photo can be edited; those two cannot.
- Archiving never deletes. A job that is finished is out of the way,
not gone.
What to do first
- Add your logo under Settings. It goes on every report and share page.
- Create your first job with an address, so the matcher has something
to match against.
- Invite the crew. Send them to the app, not the dashboard.
