Checklists that require a photo
1 min read Updated 3 Oct 2026
The one rule that turns a checklist into documentation.
A checklist is the plan for a job, written before the work. Trace's version has one rule that most do not: an item can require a photo, and it cannot be ticked without one.
Why it matters
A checklist that can be ticked without evidence is a list of intentions. Six weeks later, when somebody asks whether the decking was photographed before it was covered, "the box is ticked" is not an answer. A photo attached to the box is.
Setting it up
Library → Checklist templates, or Checklists in the sidebar. Build the list, and mark the steps worth being strict about. Be sparing: if everything requires a photo, crews start working around the checklist rather than through it.
On site
Tapping a step that needs a photo and has none prompts the crew to take one rather than showing an error. The refusal also happens server-side, so it cannot be bypassed by an old app version.
